ഒരു കൗമാര പെൺകുട്ടിയുടെ രൂപത്തിലെ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ദേവിയാണ് ദേവി കന്യകുമാരി. ശ്രീ ബാലഭദ്ര എന്നും ശ്രീ ബാലാ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ദേവി "ശക്തി" (ദുർഗ അഥവാ പാർവ്വതി) എന്ന പേരിലാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ കന്യാകുമാരിയിലാണ് ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ബംഗാൾ ഉൾക്കടൽ, അറബിക്കടൽ, ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിന്റെ സംഗമസ്ഥാനത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ തെക്കൻ മുനമ്പിലാണ്. കന്യ ദേവി, ദേവി കുമാരി എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെ പല പേരുകളിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭക്തന്മാർ ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളിയായും ആരാധിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ പരശുരാമൻ സന്യാസിമഠം നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ പരശുരാമൻ നടത്തിയതാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സിന്റെ കാഠിന്യത്തെ നീക്കം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ ദൈവമാണെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭക്തന്മാർ അവരുടെ കണ്ണുകളിൽ കണ്ണുനീർ അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഭക്തിയോടും ധ്യാനത്തോടും ദേവിയോട് പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവരുടെ മനസ്സിൽ പോലും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു.^[1]
